Updated European standards in 2026
The European Commission has adopted Implementing Decision (EU) 2026/1279, which updates the list of harmonized standards applicable to personal protective equipment under Regulation (EU) 2016/425. Among the new features: new standards for mountain sports helmets (EN 12492:2025, EN 18100:2025) and for ice hockey equipment (EN ISO 10256:2024 series).
Specifically, before buying a ski, climbing, or cycling helmet, check that the CE marking is accompanied by the updated standard reference. A helmet compliant with an outdated standard may still be sold, but its protection is no longer guaranteed according to the latest testing criteria.

Budget and training frequency: calibrating expenses
Why invest in high-end equipment if you practice once a week? Training frequency determines the level of wear on the equipment, and thus its lifespan.
